Pre-match: Farquharson pleased with Saddlers start after injury return

15 September 2023

Walsall defender Priestley Farquharson is delighted to be back on the pitch after recovering from injury and is pleased with how the team are currently progressing.

The 26-year-old, who joined from Newport County in the summer, made his long-awaited Saddlers debut against Colchester United earlier this month after he picked up a groin injury at the back end of pre-season.

Farquharson is happy to have been able to play his part in recent victories and put his frustrating spell out injured behind him.

“It started well going into pre-season but then I got that injury in the open training session and it was a little set back that annoyed me, I was upset but it’s one of those things in football, you’ve got to push on,” Farquharson said.

“I’ve come back and started well. It feels good because being injured is not the one but I’m back out there, positive and everything is going well.

“Two wins on the bounce and an away win which we haven’t had in ages so everything right now is going well.

“We’ve got to try and carry that on this Saturday and get another win because that’s what we’re going for.”

The Saddlers have a difficult task ahead against the division’s top scorers so far this season but Mat Sadler's men are currently four unbeaten in the league themselves and Farquharson insists they head into it full of belief on the back of recent results.

“It gives us a big confidence boost, especially going down there,” he commented.

“They’ve started quite well but we can score goals. My job is to stop them scoring all those goals and then hopefully we can put some in their net.

“It will be a good game; it will be feisty with all the history so it will be a good game.”
